This is a private reference site, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release anyone, post bond, schedule visits, or pull official booking records.
Find the Right Office
Michigan custody records are held by the agency that created them. County jail records usually belong to the county sheriff. State-prison records belong to MDOC. Federal custody belongs to BOP. Immigration detention belongs to ICE. Court records belong to the court or clerk.
- County jail custody: start with the County Directory.
- Specific jail or prison: use the Facility Directory.
- State prisoner or supervision case: use MDOC inmate search.
- Charges after arrest: use court records after arrest.
- Booking photos: use jail rosters and mugshots.
MDOC Public Records Contact
For MDOC-held records, the research lists MDOC-FOIA@michigan.gov, MDOC FOIA Coordinator, Michigan Department of Corrections, P.O. Box 30003, Lansing, MI 48909, phone 517-335-4194, and fax 517-335-4193. Use that route for state-prison records, not for county jail booking files.
